Internship: Graphic Designer

Posted

Hayley’s placement was with LAB Sevilla. At LAB, Hayley worked as a Graphic Designer assistant and Illustrator. She designed icons, graphic illustrations and visual identities for brands from September to December 2019.

Whilst at LAB, Hayley was able to work closely with founder Alejandro Rojas on a plethora of projects from printing, batch production and digital media as well as strengthening her skills in both group and independent work and presentation work showcasing.

For Hayley, the opportunity to work here in Seville was very ‘fun and exciting’ and her time working with Alejandro extremely rewarding.

Likewise, Alejandro was thoroughly pleased on how well Hayley performed throughout the placement.

LAB is an open cultural centre founded by Alejandro. He is a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Seville, for the production of exhibitions, workshops and cultural events in contemporary visual culture in Andalusia.

As well as this LAB provides courses in Graphic Design, Art and Illustration in order to train the next generation of Spanish digital artists.

Going forward, Hayley believes her Erasmus+ placement with LAB will ‘greatly improve her employability by broadening her horizons’ and be ‘beneficial in the future, to promote a freelance graphic design business’.

She also noted that Erasmus+ has as given her the opportunity to work and live with a diverse group of people in a different country, which will help her grow as an individual.

Outside of work, Hayley made good use of beautiful Seville by taking walks along the river, ‘relaxing in the dreamy Plaza de España’ or ‘forest-bathing in Maria Luisa Park’.

Reflecting on her time here, Hayley noticed that the Spanish culture was very different to back home in the UK with ‘people here being generally laidback and free’ and ‘social gatherings a big priority’.

This led her to get involved as much as possible with the local culture and language even though she remarked that she needed to ‘work on her accent’ before the locals will be able to truly understand her.  In 3 words, Hayley summed up her time on the program as : 1) Eye-opening, 2) Awe-inspiring and 3) Self-assuring; Praise indeed!

3Si congratulates her on her successful placement here in Seville and wishes her the best of luck further in the field of Graphic Design.
