John Lucey, 29, is an Irish Erasmus Plus participant doing an internship in Seville as a marketing assistant. John is one month into his three month placement and is making the most of his experience by learning Spanish and immersing himself in the local culture.

In the interview, John tells us about his experience in Seville and about learning a new language. We explored topics such as the local accent, places to learn Spanish, and cultural differences.
Although John has lived in Spain in the past, he is still working on understanding Spanish-speakers. When asked about the Sevillian accent, Lucey stated:
“Sometimes when I speak to someone that has the accent I have to be more focused”
However, he believes practice makes perfect and attends events such as language Intercambios to keep improving his Spanish.
We ended the interview with John by asking him whether he recommends this exchange experience, to which he answered that he definitely would. Coming to Seville for a work placement is a great opportunity to learn a new language, experience new things, and dive into the local culture!
