The 27th of March is a special day in Theatre. This year, we got the opportunity to share this time with the amazing Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Sevilla (ESAD Sevilla), at the World Theatre Day event.
The opening speech was made by their Director, Miguel Salvador Sanchez, followed by Pepa Falcón, actress, playwright and teacher, who talked about motherhood and the struggle professional actresses have to face in the industry.
It was breathtaking when two young actresses, Lorena Ávila and Gema Abad, sang a traditional song a capella. Both actresses studied together at ESAD.
One current student at ESAD, Ángela López de Haro, played her Performance of Rituals.
The Scenographer, Rafael Gómez played the song “Cómicos” to celebrate and remember the fight for rights in Spain that took place in 1975.

The World Theatre Day Manifest was read by Ana Cuesta (actress), Marta Máquez (Scenographer) and Almagro San Miguel (actor).
The rest of the event was full of wonderful performances, music and an exhibition.
Exhibition
The backyard of the school was recreated into the old, classic amphitheatre which dates back to the origin of theatre, while the halls were turned into gallery space. Showcasing costume designs and scenography used in previous performances.
